Now many ask " Why knit squares? Cloths?" They are great to learn
new techniques, stitches and "on the go" knitting. If you think of them as modular knitting to create larger items, it might inspire you to create afghans, quilt toppers, pillows, table runners
and much more!
Maithe's Blanket
Marianne from Denmark may inspire you with her Afghan
of "cloths". Marianne created this work of art
using cloths from this site and Knit-A-Longs.
Her afghan is put together with crochet.
Beautiful Work and it is fun to play
" Which pattern is that square!"

Plain English: You may not post or share the pattern.
My Grandmother knitted items for the Red Cross, she wound bandages from rolls of gauze fabric, cutting the selveges off, cause they were rough and not stretchy. She kept balls of this selvege to knit wash mitts and wash and dishcloths from. I loved watching her knit with the Red White and Blue needles, marked by a stripe for every inch, they seemed functional to me but more fun watching a new stripe appear after a few stitches!
I learned how to knit on chopsticks and yarn recycled from a sweater that the owner had outgrown, first thing I knitted was a washcloth and a blankie for Barbie.
When I began teaching knitting, I gave patterns for wash/dishcloths for students to learn basics like cables, laces, slip stitches and more. Its a good project to learn and make mistakes on, for it is still utilitarian if the stitches are not perfect.
I haven't stopped knitting in over 40 years...don't use chopsticks much for knitting but I usually use my bamboo needles.
